DTF – Descriptive course: last chance!
We still have some spots available for the in-person Descriptive Veterinary Pathology course in Minnesota! Registration will close in a few days, so if you want to come you better get on it: https://davisthompsonfoundation.org/event/2023-descriptive-veterinary-pathology-course/
Whether you are in a commercial diagnostic pathology lab, an academic institution, a drug discovery team, or a CRO, being able to recognize and describe gross, microscopic, and ultrastructural findings and interpret IHC/ISH and PCR has always mattered, matters now, and will always matter. (At least until ChatGPT starts writing our reports!) The 2023 in-person Descriptive Veterinary Pathology course is a fantastic opportunity to separate yourself from your work responsibilities for a week, focus completely on your own education, and make friends you will have for a lifetime. Is it more expensive and logistically challenging to travel? Yes. Is the experience of taking this one precious week to focus only on your learning and not be distracted by 100 other things worth it? YES!!
Please join us as we return to in-person format for the Descriptive Veterinary Pathology course at the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine. In addition to many hours of lectures by Drs. Linden Craig, Patty Pesavento, and myself, as well as FIVE mock tests including multiple-choice and slide descriptions, registration includes coffee breaks and a catered lunch each day. On Wednesday evening we have a social hour where you can get to know your fellow participants and hang out with the instructors and local hosts. Minneapolis/St. Paul is usually gorgeous in the summer, with tons of great restaurants and breweries! The schedule will run Wednesday to Sunday rather than Monday through Friday, in an effort to help people minimize the number of days off they need to negotiate.
Please note: in an effort to make sure we achieve numbers of participants that support the in-person option and the extra work and expense that entails, there will be no hybrid, virtual, or recorded option this year. Register soon! If you are unable to come to Minneapolis this year, please continue to use the many, many study resources that the Foundation provides free of charge, like Free Friday and REWIND seminars, the many great videos on the YouTube channel, Noah’s Arkive and Noah’s Slidebox, the LCPG Diagnostic Exercises, and more.
If you’re coming to the DVP at University of Minnesota, our local host recommends booking at one of these hotels (please note that there are no reserved blocks or special rates, book at your own discretion):
DoubleTree Roseville Minneapolis (often has a shuttle bus to the university, please double-check this information at booking as it will be summer and things may change) LINK
Best Western Plus Como Park LINK
The Graduate Hotel Minneapolis LINK
And remember, the dates for the course run Wednesday May 31 to Sunday June 4, a little different from our regular M-F schedule to avoid Memorial Day. You will be responsible for your own transportation to and from your hotel and the vet school. Looking so forward to seeing you there!
